Cristina Vargas, 81 years old, had both legs amputated after an SUV crashed into the Mexican restaurant Los Cinco Puntos, in Los Angeles, United States. The accident occurred on July 7, when the elderly woman was having a meal with her daughter Gabriela and a friend. The three women were seated at the table around 3:20 PM and were saying a prayer before the meal when the vehicle came down the street at high speed and went through the establishment.
Security camera footage captured the moment the white SUV went through the table and struck the three women before crashing into a wall of the restaurant. Cristina was trapped under the vehicle and had her legs severely mangled. Gabriela suffered a head injury and a deep cut on her knee.
After the accident, Cristina underwent three surgeries. According to her daughter's account to CBS News, the elderly woman screamed in Spanish: "My legs! My legs!" After the medical procedures, doctors concluded that it would be necessary to amputate both of the patient's legs.
