PSP issued an alert to warn citizens about scam attempts through fraudulent messages informing about alleged unpaid debts. Scammers contact victims by SMS, email or telephone calls, informing them that they have outstanding amounts that need to be settled.
The police warns that people should not be in a hurry to pay when they receive this type of communications. What appears to be a legitimate collection notice may actually be a fraud attempt aimed at deceiving citizens and obtaining improper payments.
PSP recommends that citizens be vigilant and distrust unsolicited messages demanding immediate payment of debts. If in doubt, it is advisable to verify the authenticity of the contact through the official channels of the creditor entities before taking any decision.
