Benfica were keeping a close eye on the market looking for solutions to strengthen the defensive sector and had identified Taylor Harwood-Bellis, an English central defender, as one of the options for the position. However, the negotiations never came to fruition and the Eagles ended up looking for an alternative.
Now, the player returns to the Premier League in a deal that should exceed 35 million euros. According to Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa are finalizing the details with Southampton to secure the English defender, who had been on the encarnados' agenda during the summer market.
Aston Villa are willing to pay over 29 million euros in fixed value, to which various bonuses may be added. The third proposal put forward by the Villans finally got closer to Southampton's demands, after two previous offers had been rejected.
