The unemployment rate in Portugal remained unchanged at 5.7% in July, the same value recorded in June, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE). This value represents a decrease of 0.1 percentage points compared to the same period last year. In absolute terms, the unemployed population fell by 2.7 thousand people compared to June and 3.4 thousand compared to the same month in 2024.
On the active population side, there was a decline of 9.9 thousand people, corresponding to a decrease of 0.2% compared to June. However, in year-on-year terms, the active population grew by 1.4%, equivalent to an increase of 79.5 thousand people.
The employed population also showed a similar evolution, with a decrease of 7.1 thousand people (0.1%) compared to June, but growth of 82.9 thousand people (1.6%) compared to the same month last year.
Regarding labor underutilization, this rose slightly month-on-month, i.e., compared to June, but remained below the value recorded three months ago, indicating a stabilization of this indicator in the medium term.
