Jornal do Algarve31 August 2026 at 11:16

Farense suffered on Sunday, August 30, their first defeat in II Liga, losing 2-1 against Sporting B in Alcochete, in a match decided in stoppage time by Rafael Nel, from the penalty spot. The Algarve team managed to recover from a half-time deficit, but ended up conceding the second goal in the 90+4 minute, in a game that ended with both teams reduced to 10 players.

The match started evenly balanced, but it was Sporting B who reached the lead near half-time, in the 44th minute, through Mauro Couto, who shot from outside the area and beat Fabijan Buntic. Farense came out better in the second half and nearly scored in the 58th minute through Mattheus Oliveira, but the goal was ruled out due to the intervention of João Resende, who was in an offside position. The Algarve team eventually equalised in the 68th minute, through a penalty converted by Derick Poloni, after a foul by Daniel Costa on João Resende.

The match gained intensity in the final stretch. Farense was reduced to 10 men in the 84th minute, when Cláudio Falcão saw his second yellow card and was sent off. In stoppage time, in the 90+4 minute, Singh brought down Rodrigo Rodrigues in the area and Rafael Nel converted the penalty to make it 2-1. Nel's celebrations caused another sending off, when the Sporting striker, already on a yellow card, got involved in a verbal exchange with Alex Pinto and received his second yellow, leaving both teams once again on equal numbers.

With the defeat, Farense stays on seven points and drops to sixth place, in a group that includes Penafiel, Vizela, Portimonense and Benfica B. Sporting B, on the other hand, add nine points and rise to third place, one point behind leader Lusitânia de Lourosa.
