Bonnie Pierce, 38, died after returning inside a burning apartment in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States, to try to save her 4-year-old daughter. The mother had managed to escape the fire but returned upon realizing the child was still inside the home. Pierce died on Monday (24), two days after the fire.
During the rescue, a firefighter found Bonnie unconscious in a bedroom. When lifting her to remove her from the house, he discovered a small child underneath her. The interim chief of the Saint Paul Fire Department, Gregory Duren, confirmed the information to the family.
Bonnie was without oxygen for about 15 minutes and suffered burns. The 4-year-old daughter was also found under her mother's body, but the article does not report the child's current condition.
