Brazil and Peru destroy drug laboratories and landing strips in the Amazon

Brazil's Federal Police and Peru's National Police destroyed four drug processing laboratories and five landing strips used by criminal organisations in the Peruvian Amazon region. The actions were part of Operation Amazônia 2026 and took place in the province of Mariscal Ramón Castilla, in the region of Loreto, Peru, on the border with Brazil.

In total, approximately 6.2 tonnes of cocaine sulphate were destroyed in the dismantled laboratories. The landing strips were used by criminal networks for transporting drugs and supplies in the border region.

The operation represents a joint effort between Brazilian and Peruvian authorities in combating drug trafficking in the Amazon, a region frequently used by criminal organisations for illegal activities due to its remote location and difficult access.
