The mid-season presents itself as an attractive opportunity for Spanish travelers seeking international getaways at more affordable prices. According to KAYAK data, between September and October, there was a significant increase in searches for distant destinations such as Osaka, Shanghai, and Lima. Flight prices decreased by 25% compared to the summer months, while international hotel searches increased by 16% compared to summer and 7% compared to the same period last year.
With the end of summer, Spaniards change their travel preferences. Searches for hotels with swimming pools fell by 24% compared to the summer season, suggesting a greater focus on cultural experiences and disconnection. The growing interest in destinations outside of Spain, especially in Africa, North America, and the Caribbean, results in flight price reductions of up to 42%.
The most sought-after destinations by Spaniards include Paris, Rome, and London, which continue to lead searches. Osaka emerges as the most innovative destination, with an 80% increase in flight searches. The cities with the biggest price drops include Bucharest, New York, and Tirana, with reductions of up to 47% compared to the summer months.
Natalia Diez-Rivas, Commercial Director at KAYAK for Europe, highlights that October 11th is the most economical day to check into an international hotel, with an average price of €86 per night. KAYAK suggests using tools such as price alerts so that travelers can monitor fare fluctuations and take advantage of the best deals during the mid-season.
