A new provisional toll from last week's floods in Nepal, on the border with China, rose to 903 dead and 4,247 missing, the Nepali authority responsible for managing emergency situations announced. This number represents a significant increase compared to the previous toll from Sunday, which reported 788 dead in Nepal.
China's state media reported 16 dead and 546 missing in Chinese territory, in the autonomous region of Tibet, raising the provisional total of victims to 919 dead and 4,793 missing. Among the missing persons in Nepal, more than two thousand are located in the areas of Nuwakot, Rasuwa and Makwanpur.
Nepalese authorities remained without news of 592 foreign citizens and 933 hydroelectric power plant employees or workers on dam construction projects in the region. The identification of victims is underway.
Authorities in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, downstream from Nepal, confirmed having recovered a total of 17 bodies of presumed flood victims since Wednesday. These deaths, which are not included in the official Nepali toll, are being identified.
