A car bomb exploded on Sunday night in front of a police station in the city of Ojocaliente, in the Mexican state of Zacatecas. The explosion left seven people injured, six civilians and one police officer. The explosive was placed in a private automobile and caused physical damage to the police station, in addition to hitting 11 vehicles, two police cars and properties near the location.
Zacatecas Secretary of Government Rodrigo Reyes reported through Facebook that the situation is "under control." Initially, Reyes had announced that six civilians were injured and receiving medical treatment, and that a police officer was also injured during the attack.
A military team specialized in explosive handling went to the scene and isolated the area to check if other unexploded devices had been left at the location. The shockwave from the explosion also hit some houses near the police station.
The attack occurred during the celebration of the city's patron saint, adding a context element to the tragedy. No information was provided about possible suspects or motives for the attack.
