Dave Grohl revealed how Foo Fighters builds the setlist for their three-hour shows, night after night. According to the vocalist, everything starts with a whiteboard, where the band organizes songs into three distinct categories.
In the first category are the songs everyone knows and sings along to — about 16 or 17 tracks. Next come the fan favorites that the casual listener may have already heard. Finally, there are the more obscure tracks that only the most devoted Foo Fighters fans will love.
On August 13, Foo Fighters played for 50,000 people at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, demonstrating the comprehensive nature of their setlist.
On September 4, the band will headline the first day of Rock in Rio 2026.
