Confirmed one dead and 15 missing in flash floods at Grand Canyon

SIC Notícias31 August 2026 at 09:10

One person died and 15 others are missing due to flash floods at Grand Canyon National Park, in the United States. The body of a 46-year-old man was found on Sunday night near Crystal Rapids, a well-known area within the park. Authorities confirmed the death and continue with search operations for the missing.

More than 60 people were evacuated from the area before the flash floods occurred. Rescuers managed to evacuate visitors in time, avoiding an even greater number of victims. However, some people remain missing since the incident.

The flash floods were caused by intense rainfall in a nearby area, which generated a wave of water and debris flowing down the Colorado River. This type of phenomenon is relatively rare at the Grand Canyon, but can occur when there is heavy rain in the higher areas of the park. Emergency teams remain on site to search for the missing.
