Arctic thaw is increasing cloud formation in the region, which could have major impacts on the global climate. This conclusion comes from an article recently published in the journal Nature Geoscience.
The investigation was led by the University of Birmingham, in the United Kingdom. The study revealed that the combination of iodine, sulfur and organic compounds emitted into the atmosphere by natural processes is creating more particles capable of giving rise to clouds.
This phenomenon is related to the increase in thaw, which releases substances into the atmosphere that were previously frozen or trapped in ice.
