Iran: Tehran attacks US military targets in Jordan in retaliation for attack on Larak island

Jornal Económico31 August 2026 at 08:56

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard attacked this Monday American military targets in Jordan with ballistic missiles and drones, in retaliation for an attack by the United States against Larak island, located in the Strait of Hormuz. The attacks targeted technical and maintenance facilities, as well as American aircraft positioned at the Al Azraq and King Hussein bases, with the Revolutionary Guard stating it caused major damage.

The American attack on Sunday night aimed to destroy rockets with loaded sea mines that would be placed in the strategic passage of the Strait of Hormuz. According to the EuropaPress agency, at least two people died and two were injured in this attack on Larak. Iranian authorities classified the operation as a "terrorist aggression" that would be "punished."

After the Iranian announcement, the Jordanian army announced it had shot down eight missiles that had entered its airspace, successfully destroying them. Jordan did not specify the origin of the downed missiles.

Iranian authorities also warned that any act of hostility will be targeted with even more powerful retaliation, in a scenario of escalating tensions between Iran and the United States in the Middle East region.
