Doctor Lucas Cardim, 39 years old, identified during medical school a significant problem in basic health care in Petrolina, Pernambuco. Many patients could not follow the prescribed instructions, not because of the doctor's handwriting, but due to reading difficulties or complete illiteracy.
This realization led Cardim to develop an innovative solution to help his patients better understand medical instructions. The approach involves using drawings and illustrations on prescriptions and treatment guidelines.
The strategy created by the doctor aims to facilitate patients' understanding of how to take medications, the correct times, and the necessary procedures for treatment. In this way, prescriptions with drawings began to be shared on the internet, expanding the initiative's reach.
The methodology developed by Cardim seeks to overcome literacy barriers in accessing health information, allowing patients with different literacy levels to correctly follow the medical instructions they receive.
