TAP closed the first half of the year with a loss of 99.2 million euros, a negative result that the Portuguese airline attributes mainly to the pressure from fuel costs. Despite the poor operational result, the company managed to increase its revenues by 4.3% during this period.
The number of passengers transported by TAP reached a new record of 8.2 million in the first half, demonstrating that demand for the company's services remained high. However, revenue growth was not sufficient to offset the significant increase in operating costs.
Fuel costs increased by 18.7%, representing one of the main factors for the negative result of the Portuguese airline. This substantial increase in fuel prices significantly affected the company's profitability during the period under analysis.
Regarding TAP's shareholder structure, there is a dispute between two major European airline groups for the 44.9% stake in the company. Air France-KLM and Lufthansa are competing to acquire this share of the Portuguese company, in a process that could significantly alter TAP's shareholder configuration.
