Sandra Almeida Azevedo, CNN Portugal's special correspondent in Nepal, took stock of the situation in the country after the severe floods that ravaged the region. The death toll now exceeds 900, revealing the severity of the humanitarian catastrophe that has befallen Nepal.
Rescue teams from several Asian countries are trying to reach the affected populations. According to the special correspondent, there are teams from China, India, and South Korea involved in rescue and evacuation efforts.
However, access to people in need has been extremely difficult. Conditions on the ground, likely worsened by the effects of the floods, have significantly hampered rescue operations and humanitarian assistance.
