A study reveals that Black youth from wealthier families have a significantly higher probability of completing high school compared to Black youth from poorer families. Financial status, therefore, has a strong influence on the completion of basic education among the Black population.
However, the research also demonstrates that improving financial status is not sufficient to completely eliminate the inequality between Black and white youth who are in the same income bracket. The racial gap persists even when economic factors are controlled.
The study will be presented this Thursday during the seminar entitled "Racial inequalities in education: understand to change," which takes place at the headquarters of the organization Ação Educativa, in São Paulo. The event seeks to promote discussion about the factors that perpetuate inequalities in the Brazilian educational system.
