TAP worsens loss to 99.2 million euros in the first half

SIC Notícias31 August 2026 at 07:14

TAP worsened its loss to 99.2 million euros in the first half of the year. The Portuguese airline managed to increase revenues and carried a record number of passengers during this period.

Despite the growth in activity and the increase in revenues, the company's accounts were unbalanced. The main factor responsible for this worsening of losses was the fuel price, which had a significant impact on the airline's operating costs.

TAP thus faces a paradoxical scenario, where it manages to attract more passengers and generate more revenue, but cannot balance its accounts due to the increase in fuel costs in the aviation sector.

Oil returns to 90 dollars with new attacks between USA and Iran

The latest exchange of attacks between the USA and Iran, the first in over a month, caused oil prices to rise again above 90 dollars per barrel, with Brent rising almost 2%, to 89.84 dollars. The American army attacked Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island, in the Strait of Hormuz, allegedly when Iranian forces were preparing to launch mines in that strategic waterway. In retaliation, Iran launched missiles against US bases in Jordan, which were intercepted. Analysts from DBS Bank and Gallo Partners point out that, although a prolonged escalation is considered unlikely, tensions continue to delay the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, key to world oil traffic.
