The Spanish Ministry of the Interior announced a new European directive that will change the rules for driving licenses in the country. This directive will allow people who obtained their license with automatic transmission vehicles to drive manual cars after completing an additional requirement.
From the entry into force of this measure, it will be sufficient to complete a training course lasting seven hours. This course will authorize drivers to drive manual transmission vehicles, without the need to repeat any practical exam before the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT).
Previously, drivers who took the practical exam with an automatic vehicle were limited only to that type of driving. With the new regulation, they will have the possibility to expand their driving skills through this complementary training.
The measure comes in the context of the harmonization of driving rules at the European level, allowing greater flexibility for drivers who choose to take the exam with automatic vehicles.
