End of the 6x1 schedule: Senate committee votes on proposal this week; find out when the workday may change

oglobo31 August 2026 at 04:00

The Committee on Constitution and Justice (CCJ) of the Federal Senate is expected to vote on Wednesday on the proposed constitutional amendment (PEC) that ends the 6x1 work schedule. This schedule allows workers to work six consecutive days and rest only one.

The proposal is considered one of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's (PT) main banners since the presidential elections. The project's advancement occurred after President Lula met last week with Senate President Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP) and Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB).

Approval by the CCJ is a necessary step before the text is analyzed by senators on the House floor. The proposal's rapporteur ruled out changes to the text and said he is working to ensure the vote takes place next week.

Even if the PEC is approved and promulgated during the focused congressional session before the elections, the main changes will not be immediate, according to the current approved text.
