TSE suspends Lula's advertisement with "curriculum" of Flavio Bolsonaro

oglobo31 August 2026 at 01:57

Minister Estela Aranha, from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), decided on Sunday to suspend the broadcasting of an advertisement from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's campaign. The decision refers to an announcement that presented what the campaign called "Bolsonaro's curriculum."

The request for the suspension was made by the PL candidate, who is current President Jair Bolsonaro, Lula's opponent in the election. The minister's decision granted the opposing campaign's request.

The advertisement in question was considered irregular by the Electoral Court, which ordered its removal from the air. The content presented information about Bolsonaro's son, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, in a way that was interpreted as negative advertising by the PL campaign.

Lobbyist Roberta Luchsinger, friend of Fabio Luis Lula da Silva, known as Lulinha, President Lula's son, has a series of debts in court for defaults, as revealed by Fantástico. She is the target of an investigation that examines whether she practiced influence peddling in public agencies together with Lulinha, who denies any wrongdoing. The Federal Police indicate that the two would have done lobbying to enable business deals, including a contract of 626 million reais with a company linked to Antonio Carlos Camilo Antunes, known as Careca do INSS. Does Luís Miguel Sousa Govern Madeira?

An opinion article questions Luís Miguel Sousa's influence in Madeira, accusing him of maintaining a monopoly on ports that drives up the cost of all products in the region. The text details how extremely high freight rates, price coordination in supermarkets, and the country's highest inflation in cost of living and housing result from this control. It also mentions the removal of competitors like Naviera Armas and the difficulties faced by LIDL. It also denounces that Grupo Sousa controls fuels, energy, distribution, waste collection, and owns the Diário de Notícias, compromising journalistic scrutiny. The author criticizes the inaction of the Competition Authority and the Regional Government, which subsidizes "territorial continuity" instead of demanding transparency and port opening, concluding that insularity is a lucrative business paid for by residents.

Legitimacy at the ballot box is not a blank check

An opinion article criticizes the President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, allegedly confusing political mandate with private ownership. The text reports that Sara Albuquerque, the president's daughter, was paid by Atalaia Living Care, a social welfare institution (IPSS) that signed a public contract worth over 17 million euros with the regional government. The association tried to silence those who revealed these relationships through courts, but lost. The article questions how many other public contracts may have been signed with similar criteria and reminds that the electoral mandate does not constitute a "blank check" to manage public funds for the benefit of private interests.
