In the midst of war in Europe, the profits of companies listed on the Portuguese stock exchange reached a new historical record in the first half of the year. The combined net results of companies listed on the PSI-20 rose significantly, driven mainly by the energy sector.
Three companies account for more than one third of the historical profits of the main national index. The oil company Galp Energia stands out as the star of the earnings season, directly benefiting from high oil and natural gas prices in the conflict context. Analysts consulted by Negócios point to the company as the main driver of the profits recorded.
On the other hand, six companies in the index saw their net profit decline in the period under analysis. The postal service (CTT) emerges as the main negative surprise, with results below analyst and investor expectations.
The energy sector was clearly the big winner of this earnings semester, in a period marked by the war in Europe that caused a strong appreciation of energy commodities. This dynamic allowed some listed companies to obtain historical results, while companies in other sectors faced difficulties.
