The governor of Pernambuco, Raquel Lyra (PSD), filed a police report this Sunday for slander after posters with references to the death of her husband, businessman Fernando Lucena, were spread across Recife. The candidate for reelection said she saw the images on social media while leaving a campaign event.
Fernando Lucena died in October 2022, on the eve of the first round, after suffering a sudden illness. In the police report, Lyra states that the posters associat her in a slanderous manner with this episode.
In a video posted on social media, Lyra said: "I was able to see up close the cruelty of those who have no limits. Respect my family. Respect who is no longer here. Respect my pain."
Former Recife mayor João Campos (PSB), Lyra's opponent in this year's election, demanded that the case be investigated.
