Prime Minister Montenegro tried to associate the AD party (Democratic Alliance) with the total recovery of the 3.2 billion euros invested in TAP. The objective seemed to be to attribute political credit to his party for resolving the TAP case.
However, Montenegro's strategy ended up resulting in the opposite effect to what was intended. Instead of reinforcing AD's image, the initiative ended up unexpectedly benefiting the PS (Socialist Party).
This situation reveals the political tensions surrounding the TAP issue, one of the largest Portuguese public companies that required a million-euro bailout by the State.
