Ontario Premier Doug Ford inaugurated a giant billboard on the shores of Lake Ontario. The outdoor sign contained the message "Lake Ontario. Now and Forever," in direct response to the executive order issued by United States President Donald Trump.
Trump's executive order, issued on Thursday, aimed to rename the body of water. The document sought to change the official designation of the lake, which is shared between Canada and the United States.
Doug Ford used the occasion to affirm Canadian sovereignty over the lake, using the billboard as a symbol of resistance to the American renaming attempt.
Canada's response to Trump's decree was immediate, with the installation of the billboard occurring shortly after the executive order was published in the United States.
