Portuguese canoeist Fernando Pimenta, 37 years old, won the World Championship title in K1 5000 meters at the Canoeing World Championships held in Poznan, Poland. This victory came just one day after he won the gold medal in the K1 1000 meters event, demonstrating excellent form.
In the K1 5000 meters event, Fernando Pimenta completed the course in 24 minutes, 15 seconds, and 72 hundredths, controlling the entire race and moving into the lead in the second half, maintaining it until the end. South African Hamish Lovemore finished in second place with 24.17.17, while Danish Mads Pedersen came in third with 24.18.17.
This title represents another important achievement in Fernando Pimenta’s record in this event. The Portuguese athlete had already been World Champion in K1 5000 in 2017 and 2018, having also won silver medals in 2021, 2023, and 2024, and bronze in 2019.
Portugal finished the Canoeing World Championships with four podiums in total. In addition to Pimental's gold in K1 1000, João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista secured silver in K2 500 meters, and Gustavo Gonçalves, Pedro Casinha, João Ribeiro, and Messias Baptista won bronze in K4 500 meters.

Na última prova dos mundiais de canoagem, Fernando Pimenta cronometrou 24.15,72 minutos, impondo-se ao sul-africano Hamish Lovemore (24.17,17), que ficou em segundo lugar e ao dinamarquês Mads Pedersen (24.18,17), que terminou em terceiro.
O canoísta português, de 37 anos, controlou toda a prova e passou para a frente na segunda metade, liderando a partir daí até final.
Em K1 5000, Fernando Pimenta já tinha sido campeão do Mundo em 2017 e 2018, prata em 2021, 2023 e 2024, e bronze em 2019.
Portugal termina a participação nos Mundiais de canoagem com quatro pódios, depois do ouro em K1 1.000, prata em K2 500 e bronze em K4 500 metros.
