Bodies of flood victims buried in temporary graves due to lack of space in Nepal

Correio da Manhã30 August 2026 at 18:00

The authorities in Chitwan district, Nepal, began on Saturday burying the bodies of flood victims in temporary trenches due to the lack of available space. The measure was taken to respond to the emergency situation caused by the flooding in the region.

Around 250 corpses remained unidentified at the funeral facilities. The authorities indicated that these bodies were awaiting the identification process before being handed over to their respective families.

Forensic teams were working in the field to determine the identity of the victims. The goal was to allow that, after identification, the bodies could be claimed by families and receive a burial appropriate to their traditions and wishes.

The authorities did not specify when the floods that caused these deaths occurred, nor did they provide more details about the extent of the damage caused by the flooding in Chitwan district.

Built an 'ancient' amphitheater. Charged tickets. Ended up arrested

A man in Arcugnano, in northeastern Italy, built a fake ancient Greek amphitheater, presented it as an archaeological discovery and charged tourists tickets for two years. The building had a fan shape, characteristic of a theater and not an amphitheater, and could not be Greek, as Greek colonies in Italy were much further south. There were concerts, guided tours and stories about Julius Caesar and Cleopatra. The man ended up being arrested for fraud.
