Winning without communicating is only winning half...

Jornal do Algarve30 August 2026 at 18:06

FC Porto returned to the top of the Portuguese league after three rounds, remaining undefeated. With 13 months of Francesco Farioli as coach, the club achieved the sporting stability it lacked in the previous months. The article acknowledges the Italian coach's merit in the results achieved.

However, the author strongly criticizes the absence of communication in Portuguese by Farioli. After more than a year and entering the second season, all official communication from the coach continues to be done exclusively in English and Italian, without any visible effort to address the fans in the local language.

The article argues that this situation represents a lack of belonging and respect for the home where he carries out his activity. Examples of other foreign coaches are mentioned, such as Bobby Robson who spoke Portuguese in Porto and Pep Guardiola who learned German in a few months, suggesting that in other countries this situation would not be accepted.

The author concludes that press conferences are intended for the members, the youth academy players, and the city, not the locker room. Without this minimum effort in communication, the message sent to the fans is that the coach is "just passing through" and does not need them to win.
