Gold doubling for Pimenta

Fernando Pimenta became world champion in K1 5,000 meters in Poznan, Poland, adding this title to the gold won on Saturday in the K1 1,000 meters event. The Limiano athlete completed the race in 24 minutes, 15 seconds and 72 hundredths, beating South African Hamish Lovemore, who finished with 24.17.17, and Danish Mads Pedersen, third place with 24.18.17.

This is Fernando Pimenta's third world championship title at the 5,000-meter distance, after winning gold in 2017 and 2018. The Portuguese athlete had also won silver medals in this event at the World Championships in 2021, 2023 and 2024, and bronze in 2019.

With these two golds in Poznan, Portugal ends the Canoe World Championships with a total of four podiums. In addition to Fernando Pimenta's titles, the Portuguese team also achieved silver in K2 500 meters and bronze in K4 500 meters.

Portugal termina assim com quatro pódios em Poznan, depois do ouro em K1 1.000, prata em K2 500 e bronze em K4 500 metros.
