Transfer Market: Arsenal star heading to Saudi Arabia for €70 million

SAPO Notícias30 August 2026 at 16:32

Gabriel Martinelli, Brazilian forward and Arsenal star, will leave the gunners to transfer to Al Hilal, in Saudi Arabia. The deal is valued at 70 million euros and represents one of the most significant transfers of the transfer window.

Arsenal reached an agreement with Al Hilal for the sale of the player, who had been at the English club since 2019. Martinelli was an important piece in the London team, but the multimillion-dollar offer led the club to accept the negotiation.

The Brazilian player will now move to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, to represent Al Hilal. This deal is described as historic, marking one of the most relevant transfers from European football to the Saudi league.

Winning without communicating is only winning half...

An opinion article in Jornal do Algarve criticizes Italian coach Francesco Farioli, of FC Porto, for not making any effort to communicate in Portuguese, even after 13 months at the club. The author argues that, although FC Porto is winning on the pitch — being the undefeated leader after three rounds —, it is losing the game of respect for the local community by continuing to hold press conferences and official communications exclusively in English and Italian. Comparing with examples like Bobby Robson, who spoke Portuguese in Porto, or Pep Guardiola, who learned German quickly, the author argues that this stance sends the message that the coach is "just passing through" and does not need the fans. He concludes that "winning without communicating is only winning half."
