Francisca Marote and Afonso Paulino became national runners-up in Under-16 mixed doubles, after losing the grand final of the National Championship held at the Jamor Tennis Complex. The Madeiran duo, representing the Roberto Costa Tennis Club, thus achieved another podium for the Autonomous Region of Madeira at this national competition.

The two players, the second seeds, fought a strong duel in Sunday's final against the fourth seeds. Throughout the competition, Francisca Marote and Afonso Paulino demonstrated an excellent run to reach the decisive match.

This achievement represents further proof of the growth of Madeiran tennis at the highest national level in the Under-16 category, with the region managing to maintain a consistent presence on the competition podiums.

Winning without communicating is only winning half...

An opinion article in Jornal do Algarve criticizes Italian coach Francesco Farioli, of FC Porto, for not making any effort to communicate in Portuguese, even after 13 months at the club. The author argues that, although FC Porto is winning on the pitch — being the undefeated leader after three rounds —, it is losing the game of respect for the local community by continuing to hold press conferences and official communications exclusively in English and Italian. Comparing with examples like Bobby Robson, who spoke Portuguese in Porto, or Pep Guardiola, who learned German quickly, the author argues that this stance sends the message that the coach is "just passing through" and does not need the fans. He concludes that "winning without communicating is only winning half."
