Querétaro has not yet paid Paulo Victor: Santa Clara threatens to take the case to FIFA

Record30 August 2026 at 16:44

The Mexican club Querétaro has not yet paid player Paulo Victor, who was linked to Santa Clara, a Portuguese club. The situation puts Santa Clara on alert, as the Portuguese club has not yet received the amount for the transfer of the athlete. The debt of Querétaro to Santa Clara is around one million euros.

Given the lack of payment, Santa Clara threatens to file a complaint with FIFA to resolve the financial dispute. The Portuguese club intends to exhaust all possible avenues to recover the money owed to them for the transfer of the player.

Paulo Victor, a 25-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper, was transferred from Santa Clara to Querétaro in 2023. Since then, the Mexican club has not fulfilled the financial obligations agreed upon in the negotiation, creating this conflict between the clubs.

This is not the first time financial problems have arisen involving international transfers of Brazilian players to Mexican clubs. The case is now in the hands of Santa Clara, which awaits a resolution before formally filing a complaint with the governing body of world football.

Winning without communicating is only winning half...

An opinion article in Jornal do Algarve criticizes Italian coach Francesco Farioli, of FC Porto, for not making any effort to communicate in Portuguese, even after 13 months at the club. The author argues that, although FC Porto is winning on the pitch — being the undefeated leader after three rounds —, it is losing the game of respect for the local community by continuing to hold press conferences and official communications exclusively in English and Italian. Comparing with examples like Bobby Robson, who spoke Portuguese in Porto, or Pep Guardiola, who learned German quickly, the author argues that this stance sends the message that the coach is "just passing through" and does not need the fans. He concludes that "winning without communicating is only winning half."
