The Ethnographic Procession traveled through the streets of Lamego this afternoon, as part of the program of the Festivities in Honor of Our Lady of Remedies. The route started near the City Hall and continued along Avenida 5 de Outubro, Avenida Dr. Alfredo de Sousa, Avenida Visconde Guedes Teixeira and Avenida Infantaria 9, gathering participants and spectators along the way.

The event was organized by Rancho Regional de Fafel, with the support of the Municipality of Lamego, and paid tribute to the arts, the knowledge and the ways of life that marked the daily life of the rural communities of the Douro. The traditional croças and capuchas, the implements linked to work in the fields and the pairs of oxen were part of a reenactment that brought to the streets memories of times past.

The initiative established itself as a moment of preservation and enhancement of Douro cultural heritage, in a region whose landscape and identity are deeply linked to the Douro, classified as World Heritage. As part of the program of the Portuguese Pilgrimage, the procession provided an encounter between generations, keeping alive traditions that continue to be part of the identity of the people of the Douro.
