The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) on Desertification concluded on Friday in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, without achieving the expected global agreement on drought, which had already been pending since the previous edition of the conference.
The main objective of establishing a binding international pact to address drought was not achieved during the negotiations, leaving this issue as a pending matter for future meetings on the topic.
Despite this failure, the conference managed to mobilize a total of 1.3 billion dollars in financing, which represents a positive outcome in terms of economic resources allocated to combating desertification.
The event took place in the Mongolian capital and brought together international representatives to debate strategies to combat land degradation, although the results fell short of initial expectations regarding the drought agreement.
