The Government declares red alert throughout Ecuador due to the El Niño phenomenon

The Ecuadorian government declared on Saturday the red alert throughout the national territory to strengthen preparation actions in the face of the El Niño phenomenon. The resolution establishes the activation of provincial and cantonal Emergency Operations Committees (COE) to coordinate preparation and response actions.

The measure also provides for the application of procedures, plans and protocols for preventive evacuations, response mechanisms, resource mobilization and population protection in sectors with potential impact.

In this context, local governments must comply with and execute their action plans in the face of the El Niño phenomenon, as indicated by the SNGR in a statement.
