This doctor prepares to pass on the baton of the Avante festival
João Camilo was 29 years old and had just graduated in medicine when he took on, in 1976, the clinical responsibility for the medical station at the Avante Festival, organized by the Portuguese Communist Party. Over nearly five decades, he witnessed the evolution of this event, which became one of the largest political festivals in Europe.
Now, with a long career dedicated to this festival, João Camilo is in a transition process, preparing to pass on clinical responsibilities to other doctors. This change marks the end of an era for the medical station that he helped build and consolidate over nearly 50 years.
The Avante Festival takes place annually in Vialonga, in the Municipality of Loures, and has its own medical structure to attend to thousands of participants during the days of the event. João Camilo was a central figure in organizing these healthcare services within the venue.
