Xi Jinping heading to Kyrgyzstan for regional summit and meeting with Putin

China's leader, Xi Jinping, departed today for Kyrgyzstan to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. During the visit, a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin is planned.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an intergovernmental organization that brings together several Central Asian countries and more. The summit brings together leaders of member states to discuss regional cooperation and security issues.

Xi Jinping traveled to Kyrgyzstan for what is one of the main multilateral cooperation forums in the Eurasian region. The meeting with Putin occurs in a context of deepening bilateral relations between China and Russia.

This visit by Xi Jinping to Kyrgyzstan is part of China's tradition of participating in high-level SCO meetings, an organization of which China is a founding member.
