The influencer Samantha Strable, 26, who goes by Sam Jones online, was sentenced on Thursday (8/27) by the Sublette County Court in Wyoming (USA) to 12 months probation after not contesting the charge of hunting without a guide. She participated in the hearing via video and also received a 180-day suspended prison sentence, in addition to being ordered to pay a fine of $575.40 (R$2,970).
As part of the agreement, prosecutors in the case dropped seven charges against her, including capturing an animal without a license or during closed season. The influencer had accumulated environmental controversies and became internationally known last year for a viral video filmed in Australia.
In the video that provoked strong indignation online, she ripped a panicked wombat joey from its mother by the side of an Australian road. The images generated outrage among internet users who criticized the American's attitude.
