A building located in Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, next to the famous Escadaria Selarón, is for sale. Built in 1910, the property housed the Selina Lapa Hotel until last year, after undergoing renovation. The City Hall hopes that the revitalization works around the Escadaria Selarón will attract a buyer for the historic building.
The building has an important connection to Rio's cultural history. In the early 20th century, it operated as the Apollo cabaret, one of the most popular establishments of the time in the area.
At the venue, composer Noel Rosa, born in 1910 and deceased in 1937, met dancer Ceci, whom he fell in love with. The relationship between the two ended, and this episode inspired the artist to compose the classic song "Último Desejo," one of his greatest hits.
