The village of Fernão Joanes, in the municipality of Guarda, hosts on September 12 and 13, 2026 a new edition of the Transhumance Festival. The event is dedicated to the valorization of traditions linked to pastoralism and transhumance, ancestral practices that marked the life of rural communities in the region.
Over two days, the festival program includes traditional music, local gastronomy, demonstrations of knowledge and crafts related to the pastoral world. Activities with flocks are also planned, allowing participants to closely experience the daily life of shepherds.
The initiative seeks to preserve and promote the intangible heritage associated with transhumance, contributing to the dissemination of these traditions among an increasingly vast public.
