President of the Republic promulgates smartphone ban in schools up to 9th grade

The President of the Republic, António José Seguro, promulgated the decree that extends the ban on smartphone use in schools to the 3rd cycle, now covering students up to the 9th grade.

The measure had been announced by the Minister of Education and extends the rules that already existed for younger students.

According to the Government, the decision results from the evolution of rules adopted in other countries and the results obtained with these policies.

With this promulgation, the ban now applies to all levels of basic education up to the 9th grade.
