With Christopher Nolan's film "The Odyssey," the ancient debate about Homer's origin has regained international prominence. The question of who was really the author of the epic poems attributed to the Greek poet remains without a definitive answer, but now the focus of discussions has shifted to the city of Smyrna, modern-day Izmir, on Turkey's western coast.

Archaeologist Professor Aylin Ümit Erdem gave an exclusive interview on the subject, in which she analyzed the ancient clues that associate Homer with Smyrna. According to the specialist, there are historical and archaeological indications that point to a possible connection between the poet and this region, although direct evidence continues to be sought.

The professor explained that, despite numerous archaeological findings in the Smyrna area that reinforce the theory of a local connection, no physical proof has yet been discovered that conclusively confirms the Homeric origin of the city. This gap keeps the debate open among historians and archaeologists.

Nolan's film thus serves as a catalyst for a discussion that transcends the academic world, bringing renewed attention to an ancient question that remains unanswered after centuries of scholarly inquiry.
