Political pressure behind the scenes at Flamengo and the need to comply with the approved budget led the board to halt investments during the second transfer window. The club had advanced negotiations for Luiz Henrique and also evaluated the possibility of signing Thiago Almada, but ultimately gave up on moves considered to have high financial impact.
This week, Flamengo moved forward to sell Gonzalo Plata and Wallace Yan, totaling approximately R$ 109 million to be received. The question that remains is about replacing these players, since no high-impact name has been announced to replace them.
The decision not to stretch financially is directly related to pressure from council members for budget execution. Flamengo's Statute determines that the Board of Directors automatically loses its autonomy to enter agreements, contracts, loans, and revenue advances when quarterly balance sheets show a deficit exceeding 3% of the projected revenue in the approved budget, which has already occurred.
It was precisely this statutory provision that came under political scrutiny after the disclosure of quarterly results, limiting the club's investment capacity even with available resources for new signings.
