GNR WARNS ABOUT SCAMS INVOLVING "FALSE ACCIDENTS" THAT HAVE ALREADY defrauded VICTIMS OF MORE THAN 72 THOUSAND EUROS

The Republican National Guard alerted to the increase in scams through the simulation of traffic accidents in Portugal, with 30 complaints registered in the first six months of this year, 15.4% more than in the same previous period, causing losses exceeding 72 thousand euros. The suspects mainly approach older drivers, convincing them that they were involved in a collision, then pressuring them to pay immediately for the alleged damages, using cash or portable payment terminals. In some cases, the scammers even observe the PIN code and swap bank cards, later making unauthorized withdrawals. GNR recommends that drivers do not make payments on the spot, photograph the vehicles, collect data from the other party, and contact authorities or the insurance company when faced with suspicious situations.
