The Rio de Janeiro city government announced the expansion of Digital Rotativo Rio to new areas of the city. The system, which allows the purchase of parking permits through the Jaé app, will arrive at Saara and the area around Praia Vermelha on September 14. In total, 1,200 new parking spaces will be added across the city.
The choice of these specific areas is due to the large number of complaints against informal parking attendants operating in the downtown area, near Saara, and around the access to the Sugarloaf cable car. The expansion will also include the Barra da Tijuca waterfront, which currently ends near Praça do Ó, at post 3, and will be extended to the area near the access to Ayrton Senna Avenue, near post 8.
The transition from the analog model, where parking payment was made on paper, began on July 17, covering seven parking lots around Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. Through the new digital system, the driver pays R$ 2 for the first hours of parking.
