Portuguese Red Cross calls for solidarity to help flood victims in Nepal

The Portuguese Red Cross has launched a humanitarian appeal to support communities affected by sudden floods in northern Nepal, which destroyed homes, roads, bridges and other essential infrastructure. The districts of Rasuwa and Nuwakot are among the most affected, with several communities isolated and difficulties in accessing basic goods and services. The Nepal Red Cross is already in the field with emergency teams, in an operation supported by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The priority is to provide clean water, shelter, first aid, healthcare and other essential goods to affected families, an appeal directed at individuals, businesses and institutions.

A Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa lançou um apelo humanitário para apoiar as comunidades atingidas pelas cheias repentinas no norte do Nepal, que provocaram danos em habitações, estradas, pontes e outras infraestruturas essenciais.

Os distritos de Rasuwa e Nuwakot estão entre as zonas mais afetadas, com várias comunidades isoladas e dificuldades no acesso a bens e serviços básicos. As populações junto aos rios Bhote Koshi e Trishuli permanecem particularmente vulneráveis.

A Cruz Vermelha do Nepal já está no terreno com equipas de emergência e voluntários, numa operação que conta com o apoio da Federação Internacional das Sociedades da Cruz Vermelha e do Crescente Vermelho.

A prioridade passa agora por garantir água potável, abrigo, primeiros socorros, cuidados de saúde e outros bens essenciais às famílias afetadas.

A Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa apela ao contributo de particulares, empresas e instituições para reforçar a resposta de emergência e ajudar as comunidades nepalesas a enfrentar as consequências das cheias.
