The Verim River Beach, in Póvoa de Lanhoso, had the red flag raised that afternoon, with swimming prohibited at that bathing area since Thursday, August 27. Environmentalist Carlos Dobreira visited the site and stated that the ban was determined as a precaution, following a warning from the Portuguese Environment Agency.
