Chef Pedro Coronha, a young award-winning cook responsible for the Koral restaurant, took over a commercial space on Rua Conde Bernadotte, in Leblon, South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The 100-square-meter space, including the sidewalk, had been closed since April, when Confeitaria Absurda decided to stop operating the branch that operated there for just over a year.
Before Absurda, the address was occupied by Slow Bakery, which operated at the location until 2024. With the bakery's departure, the space became vacant and will now be reopened by the Koral chef.
Coronha said he always liked that place and couldn't let it slip away. He revealed that he just closed the contract and hasn't exactly defined what he will open at the address, but guarantees it won't be a new Koral unit, which remains operating at its current location.
The chef expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to have a smaller and more intimate space, a format he prefers. It remains to be seen what concept he will bring to Leblon.
