The US Imposes Its First Significant Economic Measure Against Iran With Sanctions on the Egyptian Bank Misr

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General28 August 2026 at 17:51

The United States Treasury announced this Friday that it will prevent the Emirati branch of bank Misr from accessing the American financial system. Bank Misr is Egypt's second largest financial institution.

The measure was taken due to the bank's alleged commercial relations with Iran. This is described as the first significant measure since President Donald Trump announced days ago an "economic war" against Tehran.
